This blog is an accompaniment to works of art that I’ve been making since 2015 or so. It’s about all of the things that go on around the making, but aren’t necessarily in the final  seeing. This recent work is – suddenly – inspired by a place. It’s still connected to everything that made its way into my art in the past (evolution, deep time, the animal state-of-being, very tiny living things), but I’ve tossed out an anchor. This place, a few miles along the northern pacific coast of north america, seems to be very much about all of those things and more. This place is teaching me to focus. A website with more information and an archive of both current and past art can be found at www.stanford.edu/~gailw.
