nudibranchs

I’ve started a new work that has me, happily, back to shooting video in the tide pools at Salt Point. It means catching the tides and the weather at the right hour, on days when I’m in the area – a rare mix. Friday was a perfect day, and I was trying out a new borrowed camera, an Olympus TG-5. Day One: two nudibranch sitings! A good omen.

#1 looks like she’s covered in tiny LEDs, while #2 looks like she ground up her diamonds and rolled in them. So glam!

Slow but steady, and SO beautiful! Nudi in the tidepool, with diamonds . . . However they’re not as peaceful as they look, I just discovered. Nudibranchs are predatory cannibalistic carnivores, according to National Geographic. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/invertebrates/group/nudibranchs/
So they are very much creatures of our moment.

Those first two were about 3″ long, the spiky orange one about an inch, and the tiny one in the mussel shell is about a half inch. Apparently there are more than 2000 species, but most are in tropical waters. Aren’t they amazing??
